Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  Oct 3, 2007

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Previous Minutes

The spelling of Kathie Fujisaki was corrected to Fujisaka.

Treasurer’s ReportDavid Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report

 

 Acknowledgements/Announcements

     Thank you to the following families and groups for their generous donations:

1.      JASEB sent a thank you note for our donation of $100 for the 2008 calendar.

2.      Sam Mori sent a thank you note for his Pioneer Award.  He was much honored.

 

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:

 

 

 

JARCC – Sam Sunada

·         Ken Baba is working on the fire evacuation policy and procedure.  When ready, he will present it to the board.

·         Thank you to Judith Alone for doing the leg-work to get the JA club a new copier, which is in the office!

Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Service on Sat. 10/5 at 5:30. The Reverend Abiko will be the speaker.
  • The following Sunday we will have Rev./Dr. Taniguchi as our speaker

Jr. YBA – Sharon Akiyama

  • No report. 

Nippongo Gakuen – Koto Suzuki

  • The Holiday party is confirmed for Sat. 12/2 5-8 p.m.  They are looking for someone to donate a nice-looking artificial tree for the party. 

Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

  • Basketball practices have begun.
  • The Diablo basketball tourney is Oct 20-21.

Building Superintendent – Jon Yokoyama

 

  • Bathroom lights have been found ‘on’ Sunday evenings when Kendo comes to practice.  PLEASE be diligent in checking to make sure lights are turned off when leaving our facility.
  • If something is broken, please contact Jon immediately.
  • There are presently 2 broken toilets.  One Boys in the front, and one Womens in the back.  Do NOT attempt to use them. The doors are locked, and the toilets need to be replaced.

Gardeners’ Club – Judith Aono

·        A Tahoe bus trip is being planned for 11/12.  Call Hiroshi Akiyama or Judith Aono if interested.

Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

 

  • 45th Annual Ikenobo demonstration/Display takes place at the Miyako Hotel in S.F. on 10/13-10/14.  $5.00 to view the exhibit, and $30.00 to watch the demonstration.

 

JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

 

·         The Annual Choir Song Fest will take place at SACBC on October 20th at 6 p.m.

 

  Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

 

  • Congrats to Ryan Hisaka who took first place at the East Bay Judo Institute judo tourney at S.F. state on 9/23.
  • We have had a lot of new students join the club as our new season began on September 6th~  Our mat is quite full now.
  • There will be another tournament in Sacramento on Sunday 10/7.

 

Diablo Kendo Club – Mike Espinosa

 

  • Promotions are on 10/28 in San Jose.  Five kids going. Good Luck!
  • Practice on 10/21 will start ½ hour later at 6:30 p.m

 

Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

 

  • Rev. Hata, who is 87 yrs. old and used to be a member here but moved to San Diego, sent a donation of $50.00 to the Shinwakai Club.
  • The October meeting will be their regular Bingo meeting on Oct 20th.
  • Nov. 17 will be the annual Thanksgiving luncheon.

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

 

  • Festival appreciation dinner scheduled for 10/13 at 5:30. It will be catered by Rocco’s.  All those that worked summer festival are welcome to attend.

   

   Diablo Taiko Club – Jiro Hess

 

  • Thank you to the JARCC and the JA club for giving them practice space.
  • They will be requesting more time, possibly in the back room, to practice and allow more members to join.
  • There will be a workshop with an ex-kyoto member on 10/21 from 3-6 p.m.  Contact Susan Nishizaki if interested.

 

  Membership Chairperson – Mike Espinosa

 

  • Membership dues for the JA Club are due to Mike by Oct. 31, 2007.  Any received after this date will have to pay a late fee.

 

  Old Business

 

  • None.

  New Business

 

·        Cal Fujinaka has offered to help manage the JA club website.  Sam encourages us to take advantage of his expertise.  Pat Baba to contact him and discuss this with him.

·        On behalf of the JARCC and the JA club, our condolences to Yukio Kitogawa whose mother just passed away on October 2nd
